George Heckman   This is the collection of the late George Heckman. A master gunsmith for over 60 years, he was also a collector of unique and rare artifacts.

In accord with the will of Mr. Heckman, we offer them here to appreciative collectors. We hope you will enjoy your visit to this site.

Mr. Heckman operated the Heckman Arms gun shop in East Cleveland, Ohio for 38 years and served as an expert witness in court cases. His highly publicized trial involved the 1968 Glenville shootout in which three policemen and seven civillians were killed.

Mr. Heckman was born in East Cleveland, Ohio and attended Shaw High School. During WWII he served with the US Navy in the South Pacific.

He enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. He attended the University of Colorado at Denver to become an expert in gun repair. Because of his technical skills the Repeating Arms Company gave him a highly exclusive designation an official repairman for its Winchester brand rifles and shotguns. After he closed his shop in East Cleveland, he continued work from his home.

Mr. Heckman had a deep interest in archaeology. He was listed in "Who's Who of Indian Artifacts."

He held memberships in NRA and the Ohio Gun Collectors Association, as well as the Archaeological Society of Ohio. He was also in the Disabled American Veterans and served as a grand knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Heckman passed away in 2002.
